‘Responsible AI Futures’ Hybrid Seminar – Dr Caterina Moruzzi

October 10, 2024 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

What is the value of integrating AI into creative processes?

Watch the recording now:

The question of whether machines can be creative has been at the centre of debates among scholars and practitioners well before the origin of Artificial Intelligence as a recognised field of research. In one of its most notable definitions, “Creativity is the ability to come up with ideas or artefacts that are new, surprising and valuable.” (Boden, 2004) This talk will reflect on how the third of these properties – value – encouraging us to consider an alternative to the overused question “Can AI be creative?“, namely “What is the value of integrating AI into creative processes?”. Drawing on insights from a recent longitudinal study involving five creative professionals as part of a BRAID Fellowship with Adobe, the talk challenges prevailing assumptions about the advantages of incorporating AI in the creative workflow, highlighting the importance of a thoughtful approach to AI integration by both creatives and technology companies.
