AI Futures Hack: Creating Radical Infrastructures

May 6 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Design alternative community-oriented AI infrastructures in a hackathon examining energy systems, reparative models, and DIY tech.

What could the future of AI infrastructure look like? Inspired by critical African/AfroFuturisms, Transfeminist futurology and piercing prophecies of CripTech, the AfroFutures_UK collective, in association with University of Sussex will host a day spent examining, coding and hacking away to build community-oriented infrastructures of future AI. Part unconference, part hackathon, the day will be spent looking at the following strands:

  • Energy infrastructures – Creating solution architecture for technology that can give back what it receives
  • Reparations as requirement – Digging into ways that replenishment, regeneration and liability impact should feed into AI system requirements whilst building to meet those criteria
  • Bricolage hardware – Repurposing old tech, the unrecyclable, and more to build the physical infrastructure to support AI alternatives

If you are interested in contributing to the preceding online design jams, get in touch: afrofutures.uk@gmail.com.

AI FUTURES HACK: CREATING RADICAL INFRASTRUCTURES is a special episode of the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab Digital Methods Accelerator programme, it is supported by BRAID UK and AfroFutures_UK.

This event is free and open to all, but registration is required. Refreshments will be provided.
