BRAID Stakeholder Forum

We are seeking members to join our BRAID Stakeholder Forum to help us to shape the direction of Responsible AI in the UK. The Forum will provide a geographically and demographically diverse group of stakeholders from academia, civil society, policy and industry with an opportunity to be involved in discussions about BRAID-funded research, build knowledge and capabilities around key issues related to Responsible AI and the contribution of the Arts and Humanities, and to contribute to shaping the activities of the BRAID Programme and its partners.

Background

BRAID (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) is UK-wide programme dedicated to integrating Arts and Humanities research more fully into the Responsible AI ecosystem, as well as bridging the divides between academic, industry, policy and regulatory work on responsible AI.

BRAID is a six-year, £15.9 million investment funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and running from 2022 to 2028.

Working in partnership with the Ada Lovelace Institute and BBC, our team brings together expertise in human-computer interaction, moral philosophy, arts, design, law, social sciences, journalism, and AI. BRAID is extended by a network of interdisciplinary researchers and partnering organisations through the delivery of funding calls, community building events, and a series of programmed activities.

Objectives

The Stakeholder Forum will provide an opportunity for BRAID and stakeholders to communicate on issues that directly affect the communities, sectors and interests that they represent, and to discuss the approach of BRAID and partners Ada Lovelace Institute and the BBC towards integrating Responsible AI, Arts and Humanities across the UK ecosystem. We will share the latest findings of BRAID-funded research, involve you in shaping our current and future activities and priority areas, and explore key challenges and opportunities for Responsible AI together.

The Forum will meet three times a year, from Feb 2026 – late 2028. The Forum will consist of approximately 16 members plus the independent Forum Chair, BRAID, Ada Lovelace Institute and BBC colleagues, and two open seats to bring in additional expertise/representation where appropriate depending on the forum topic. We recognise the time commitment involved in participating in the Forum so two meetings will take place virtually, and one meeting per year will happen in-person in the UK.

There will also be the opportunity for two BRAID Stakeholder Forum members to join Ada Lovelace Institute and BBC advisory panels, helping to guide their work on public participation.

Forum membership: who are we looking for?

We would like to include representation from a diverse range of sectors, including but not exclusively: civil society groups, community groups who can reflect needs of underrepresented communities, academics, industry groups, artists and creatives/freelancers/early career entrepreneurs, regulators and policy-makers, from across the UK.

What if membership falls outside of my work responsibilities?

If participation in the Forum falls outside the scope of your responsibilities within your current employment, we can offer you a contribution for your participation (£75 per Forum meeting to cover participation and pre/post-meeting preparation). We can also cover travel costs for attendance at in-person meetings (taking place in the UK once a year).

Additional support can be requested via BRAID’s Accessibility Fund.

Interested?

We are now seeking Expressions of Interest, in written format, to take part in this Forum, with membership commencing from December 2025. Please send your Expression of Interest to braidstakeholderforum@ed.ac.uk and include:

Please limit applications to no more than 300 words. All Expressions of Interest should be sent by Friday 30 November 2025.
