Applications are now open for The British Academy’s Innovation Fellowships 2026–27 and we’re pleased to be working once again in partnership to co-fund the Digital Society cohort.
These fellowships offer researchers the opportunity to work directly with policymakers and partner organisations on pressing public policy challenges. The scheme supports early- and mid-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences to apply their expertise in real-world policy contexts and contribute to evidence-informed decision-making.
Our ongoing partnership with the British Academy Digital Society team has now placed seven innovation fellows across government departments and regulators, working on policy priority areas that directly impact and shape the responsible AI ecosystem.
For this new call, the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum are looking for fellows to work with them on consumer protection, innovation and regulation in a data-drive, AI-enabled economy. The Department for Work and Pensions through Skills England are seeking fellows to investigate place and people focused AI upskilling for growth and opportunity.
The application deadline is 6 August 2026: Find out more.
The British Academy’s Innovation Fellowships are supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) with additional funding provided by BRAID through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
