SUMMARY:Investors for Creative Technology: Understanding the Landscape and Reverse Pitches
DESCRIPTION:What does the investment landscape for creative technology look like? Join BRAID and techUK on Friday 16 October for Investors for Creative Technology: Understanding the Landscape and Reverse Pitches. \nInvestment in creative technology\, often termed CreaTech\, is one of the UK’s most exciting high-growth frontiers\, where creative skills and emerging technologies converge to produce new digital products\, services\, and experiences. How can creative practitioners and organisations better navigate the investment landscape – and what are investors actually looking to fund? \nThis event will bring together creative professionals\, organisations\, investors and industry stakeholders for an afternoon exploring where investment in CreaTech currently sits\, including venture\, public and philanthropic funding. \nThe event will also feature a series of reverse pitches: instead of founders pitching to investors\, investors pitch to the room\, setting out what they are actively looking to fund\, what they find missing in the ecosystem\, and what kinds of creative technology projects they wish would land on their desks. \nThe BRAID team will be there to share more about our upcoming funding opportunities\, including fellowships and creative commissions\, for researchers\, creative practitioners and industry partners who want to work together to address responsible AI challenges and explore how responsible approaches to AI investment and innovation can improve public conversations\, build trust and deliver long-term socioeconomic benefits. \nFind out more and register now: https://www.techuk.org/what-we-deliver/events/investors-for-creative-technology-understanding-the-landscape-and-reverse-pitches.html

SUMMARY:Touching the Collection
DESCRIPTION:BRAID Fellow Martin Parker presents Touching the Collection at Edinburgh Futures Institute from 2 November – 8 December 2026. \nPlease come and touch the objects in this room. Most of the metal elements here trigger a sound; feel free to pick up the tools and move them around to change harmony and create gestures. \nPartly inspired by the looping turntablism of Philip Jeck and Janek Schaefer\, massively inspired by the collection of instruments at St Cecilia’s Hall\, Touching the Collection offers you a direct interface to the sample library we have created from baroque flutes\, lutes\, guitars\, horns\, keyboards and a sideless violin. \nThe project leverages various machine learning systems to give changing and dynamic access to hear instruments that would otherwise be completely inaccessible as they are simply too old or fragile to touch. \nThe assemblage of gilded\, Baroque-like debris and work-a-day tools\, crafted by sculptor Henry Martin\, reminds us that musical instruments are tools too. Similarly\, AI and computer software are merely tools without intentions\, they need human touch and agency to craft their purpose. \nCredits The sounds in the collection sound archive were performed by: Dr Richard Craig (flutes); Dr Jenny Nex (sideless violin and some keyboards); Eric Thomas (lute and decacord); Marlowe Parker and Calum Campbell (keyboards); Andy Saunders (horns). \nHuge thanks to the team at St Cecilia’s Hall for their generosity in enabling access to the collection\, for sharing their insights and for maintaining these incredible\, rare instruments for future generations. \nSincere gratitude to the project’s funders\, Arts and Humanities Research Council and BRAID UK (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) \nWe welcome comments about this project and would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please sign the visitor’s book.
